About Us

Located in Sebastopol, Native Songbird Care & Conservation (NSCC) was founded in 2004 by Veronica Bowers.  NSCC began as The Songbird Hospital and was officially a program of Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue until 2011.  We have since fledged the nest of our wonderful family at Wildlife Rescue and are taking flight as our own organization, Native Songbird Care & Conservation.

Each year, our experienced volunteer staff cares for over 650 songbirds brought to us from all areas of Sonoma County and beyond.  From mockingbirds and robins to blackbirds and chickadees, we care for over 50 different species annually. We specialize in the care of insectivores such as swallows, swifts and flycatchers.  Songbirds are a diverse group of species that require a high level of specialized and well-managed care.

Our facility is set up exclusively to support the needs of injured, ill and orphaned songbirds. Based on their age and species, each bird has specific requirements for care, diet, housing and release back to the wild. Focusing our expertise on the rehabilitation of songbirds allows us to provide the best care possible for this unique group of birds and give them a second chance to return to their free and wild lives.

NSCC is supported entirely by donations and volunteer staff.  We are licensed by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and California Department of Fish and Game.
